How to Create Print-Ready Artwork for Cannabis & CBD Labels

Getting your artwork right is key to creating labels that look professional and print perfectly. From ingredient lists to CBD levels and compliance warnings, your design must communicate clearly and stay intact through the cutting and printing process. Here’s how to make sure your files are ready to go:

1. Use the right file format. Upload high-resolution artwork that’s at least 300 DPI at actual size. Vector files are best for sharpness and scaling (think .AI, .SVG, or .EPS), but high-quality raster files like .PNG or .JPG work too—just be sure they’re crisp and sized correctly.
2. Include bleed for edge-to-edge designs. If your product label has a colored or image background, extend it at least 1/8" beyond the cut line. This ensures your label prints cleanly to the edge with no unintended white borders—even if there’s a slight shift during cutting.
3. Define a cut line. The cut line defines the final shape of your label. If you’re supplying your own, make it 100% magenta and placed 1/8" outside the safe zone of your design. Rounded corners are standard, and a 0.04" radius will ensure smooth edges and fewer curl-ups over time.
4. Keep text and important info in the safe zone. All critical elements—like brand name, CBD levels, dosage instructions, and FDA-regulated warnings—should be kept inside the safe area (about 1/8" from the edge). This prevents them from being trimmed off during production.
5. Design in CMYK, not RGB. We print using CMYK color mode. If your files are built in RGB or Pantone, colors may shift during printing. Always convert your design to CMYK for the most accurate results.
