Tales of the Stanley Film Festival

"DANNY!" Three and a half days isolated in a haunted hotel with Indie Horror film screenings non stop in the place that inspired The Shining... yeah, it's creepy. The Stanley Hotel is hosting the 3rd annual Stanley Film Festival kicking off tonight and rolling through May 2nd.

"Set at the historic inspiration for Stephen King's THE SHINING, the Stanley Film Festival showcases the best in classic and contemporary horror cinema at the Stanley Hotel in beautiful Estes Park, Colorado. Produced by the Denver Film Society, the festival is a labor of love dedicated to crafting a more interactive experience for genre filmmakers and fans. Presenting emerging artists and established luminaries within the genre, the four-day event features live shows, installations, industry panels, the "Stanley Dean's Cup" student film competition, and spooky secrets within a frightening, yet elegant atmosphere that can function as a true horror summit for all."

The Stanley Film Festival spreads out all over the town of Estes Park with showings at The Stanley Hotel Concert Hall, Reel Mountain Theater, & the Historic Park Theatre. The Concert Hall is completely remodeled into a movie theater for the festival every year and it takes five days for set up. The festival prides itself on creating a horror retreat atmosphere with the beautiful backdrop of the Rocky Mountain National Park. “The Stanley Film Festival is the coming together of people who love horror for all the right reasons,” says SpectreVision co-founder Daniel Noah. From the minds of Leigh Whannell (co-creator of SAW and INSIDIOUS) and Ian Brennan (co-creator of GLEE), produced by SpectreVision, COOTIES is a horror comedy with unexpected laughs and unapologetic thrills. When a cafeteria food virus turns elementary school children into killer savages, a group of misfit teachers must band together to escape the playground carnage. The film stars Elijah Wood (THE HOBBIT, LORD OF THE RINGS), Rainn Wilson (THE OFFICE), and Alison Pill (THE NEWSROOM) as teachers who fight to survive the mayhem while hilariously bickering in an uncomfortable love triangle on the worst Monday of their lives.

The Invitation

Two years after a tragic loss ended his relationship, Will accepts an invitation from his ex-wife to attend a mysterious dinner party held at his former house. As the evening progresses, the dread bubbling under the surface is slowly revealed in this superbly directed psychological thriller from Karyn Kusama (JENNIFER'S BODY, GIRLFIGHT).

The Reanimator

Join Mick Garris for a conversation with the 2015 Master of Horror Award recipient Stuart Gordon and a special 30th Anniversary screening of his cult classic. In this Lovecraftian tale, medical student Herbert West attempts to unlock the secrets of life with his experimental serum.

13TH FLOOR HAUNTED HOUSE 

Considered one of the most terrifying haunts in the country, the infamous scare-mongers at 13th Floor Haunted House (www.13thfloorhauntedhouse.com) will bring their unique brand of fear to the Stanley Film Festival by hosting an elaborate photo booth throughout the weekend, transforming the grounds into happy hour scare zones on Friday & Saturday, and providing assorted secrets hidden throughout the hotel if you dare to find them....These events are free and open to the public.
