Superdawg in Chicago's Gladstone Park neighborhood is a cultural mecca for hot dog lovers the world the over. In a city with hundreds of red hot carts, drive-in spots, walk-up shelves and countless backyard and park barbeques, the Windy City takes their hot dog seriously--and never with ketchup. So it's fitting that this custom glossy die cut sticker is an exact replica of their iconic and (trademarked) SuperDawg™.
Since 1948, Superdawg has kept a traditional view of the Chicago-style hot dog, and their fans are legion, and in 2009, they opened a second stand in Wheeling, Illinois. They've been on the Food Network's "Unwrapped" and "Emeril Live," and the PBS show "Check, Please!" They are listed in the books 1,000 Places to See Before You Die and Hot Dog Chicago: A Native's Dining Guide. Every product comes with their signature pickled green tomato, which you can see in the sticker.
Their history is a classic post-World War II American success story, and the "architecturally distinct, 20' x 12' building topped with two 12 foot hot dog icons" beckoned "hungry passersby with their winking and blinking eyes." They had a great recipe, an amazing roadside attraction, and in the modern day they've kept their brand fresh, so fresh that is matches their food.
You can see the full "Hot Dog Lounge" that they create for their Chicago Dog, the SuperDawg™ and how it cradles their SuperFries™. Here's how they describe it:
Not a wiener - not a frankfurter - not a red hot - but our exclusive... Superdawg™. On a poppy seed bun, we tenderly place the loveliest, juiciest creation of pure beef hot dog (no pork, no veal, no cereal, no filler), formally dressed with all the trimmings, escorted by our often imitated, but never equaled, Superfries™. Served with all the trimmings - golden mustard, tangy piccalilli, kosher dill pickle, chopped Spanish onions and a memorable hot pepper.
