Techstars Startup Weekend events will be happening this weekend, with two in Europe and one in Mexico. A couple have special topic themes, which helps focus the weekend around a specific industries for teams to solve a problem. All three have
die cut stickers en route, and we will start with our friends in Aguascalientes before hopping across the Atlantic to the UK and France.
As with every Startup Weekend, it's all about action and creation. We love following the companies that come from each cohort weekend. Startup Weekend Aguascalientes
Down in the state capital of the same name,
Startup Weekend Aguascalientes will be contributing to the ongoing social, economic, and aesthetic revitalization process of the region with two different startup themes: fashion tech and manufacturing. Teams will tackle different problems in each track. They went with a
circle sticker that incorporates the startup beakers in the grey background, and then there's two different lab people as designs for the different tracks. They finish with a pop of color on the bottom, using a purple hue with almost seventy-five percent magenta and a quarter black as the grounding element.
Startup Weekend Derby
We are very excited for Startup Weekend Derby to host their first-ever Startup Weekend. They ordered up a
rectangle sticker in a bold cyan that incorporates the Startup Weekend beaker and fills it with a few fun lab people. There's an illustration of a ram above the location type for a piece of artwork to tell a local story, as the town's football club is the Derby County F.C. Rams, who are notable for being one of the 12 founding members of the Football League in 1888. Basically the entrepreneurial spirit runs deep in Derby, from the soccer pitch to the startup boardroom.
Over 54 hours starting Friday and ending Sunday afternoon, strangers will be connecting, discovering and founding an idea that might become a company. They'll come to the table with ideas, look for like-minded folks for a team, and speak with real customers to solve problems. One perk of Startup Weekend is the access to experienced mentors that help craft the message and the idea. Then at the end of the weekend, team will take the stage to present to a panel of seasoned entrepreneurs with backgrounds in design, development and startup investment.

Startup Weekend Lille Maker
The folks in France are taking a fun spin at Startup Weekend Lille Maker by introducing the Maker movement into the entrepreneurial conversation. If you're not familiar with
Maker culture, it's a a technology-based extension of DIY culture. There's a tech component, as maker culture in general supports open-source hardware and combines that with engineering-oriented pursuits like electronics, robotics, and 3-D printing. There is a strong focus on using and learning practical skills and applying them to reference designs. It's like old school shop class with a tech approach.
One requirement for this Startup Weekend will be that the jury will take into account the realization of a working prototype during judging. To accomplish this goal, teams will have access to
3D printers, laser cutters and other machining tools, and they will also be able to use open-source hardware like Arduino and Raspberry. Bonus: they will get a budget of 100 euros to realize the prototype.
They went with a white rectangle sticker in that features their location in red type and the beaker with a 3D printer filling the beaker with printed creation. It makes for a whimsical take on the branding, which we dig. The team at Lille Maker put together a really slick three-minute video in advance of their weekend.
