Tom Hirshfield was a research physicist at Lawrence Livermore Laboratory. Tom was a victim of cancer and passed away at a young age. His oft-quoted ten rules of thumb are a testament to clear and innovative thinking. Our lives are a kingdom of days, filled with goals that are either hit or missed. Hirshfield's famous quote urges us to push the goal posts back, and to run the risk of failure. That's where the great stuff happens. And it's spawned by an urgency brought by the game clock clicking down. You can only run so many plays, but there's a time and a place to throw that Hail Mary pass. But what is the true nature of time?
