Whenever you step through the doors of Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefontaine, Ohio, you are greeted with a sleek rectangular name tag printed on our matte label product. It's the ideal introduction to your time as a visitor in one of America's Safest Hospitals. Mary Rutan Hospital opened its doors in 1919 in a two-story colonial style building on a piece of land given to the hospital by a woman named Rebecca Rutan-Williams, who wanted the medical facility to be named after her mother Mary Rutan.
In those early days, it seemed like quite the bucolic place to get better, with visitors saying things like:
"The grounds are spacious, sloping from the building, which faces west, and rolling in the rear to the broad acres that lie to the east, commanding a splendid view. Comfortable porches are about the building, spots that will be sought by invalids who are convalescing, and above all else there is an air of remoteness to the place because of the wooded sections to the rear, although the building is easily accessible, but a few minutes' ride from the city."
From those humble beginnings, when the hospital served 24 patients and 11 more in the emergency center to today the facility has had six expansions to serve the community. There is now a Family Birth Center, surgery wing, ICCU, and pharmacy, and their most recent project was completed in 2008, which included a major renovation and expansion of 34,000 square feet. That's a lot of hallways for visitors to roam and rooms to visit, and now Mary Rutan has enough visitors that they order up a roll of matte labels to make sure everyone knows what room they need to find, with a little branding to reinforce the hospital's logo.
