Bee Squared Apiaries is a Colorado honey provider, and they are using our glossy honey labels to help wrap their specialty Whiskey Barrel Aged Honey.
This project is a Colorado collaboration at its finest, with a few local distilleries involved, including Spirit Hound in Lyons, Laws Whiskey in Denver, and Branch and Barrel Distillery in Centennial. Each distillery gave them a recently emptied whiskey barrel, which they filled with 300 pounds of honey for about 100 days. The result is a fantastic flavor explosion, full of oak and whiskey notes, adding to the natural wildflower notes already produced by the honey itself.
The business started with Beth Conrey, the owner of Bee Squared Apiaries, a small beekeeping operation located in Berthoud, CO. She has 60 hives in various locations in Weld, Larimer and Boulder counties. She started beekeeping almost 20 years ago after reading a series of newspaper columns on beekeeping by her friend, Tom Theobald. A long-time insect lover, she collected bugs as a youth. After reading those newspaper articles, Beth was motivated to take some beekeeping classes. Fast forward to today, and what started as two hives has turned into sixty. She has transferred her enthusiasm to her husband who now helps with swarm catching and hive removals. They are creating some unique products that they have for sale on their website, and you'll have to feast your eyes on their concoctions.
We'll leave you with Beth's TED talk about bees from back in 2014 at Colorado State University. Beth knows a thing or two about bees, so this talk is quite compelling.
