CrossVegas is the top cyclocross race in the US, and today some of the top professional racers of this discipline will take to the course under the lights of glam city Las Vegas. The team went with a classic die cut sticker in a rectangle shape with title sponsor Clif Bar and event logo on the Fabulous Las Vegas sign. It's compact and sporty, just the race itself. If you don't know about 'cross racing (or CX to those in the know), the race course includes many unique features, including ramps, stairs to run up, barriers, sand pits and "flyovers." It's like steeplechase, but for bikes with knobby tires.
CrossVegas is a Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI is the world governing body of bike racing) bike race that takes after the first full day of the Interbike trade show. CrossVegas started in 2007. The night-time race takes place under the lights in September each year at the Desert Breeze Park, a quick bike ride from the famous Las Vegas Strip, which features a surface that racers call "Velcro-grass" because of it's sticky nature. Sticky? Now that's something we stand behind!
Interested but can't make to Nevada? The 2017 Clif Bar CrossVegas will have a live webcast thanks to FloBikes. Check the CrossVegas website. In 2018 the event moves north to Reno, Nevada, which is a big shift for the bike community, but we hope that the team comes back for these awesome stickers.
Here's a line up the pro racers that will be lining up, from the Cross Vegas site:
UCI Elite Men Spectators can cheer on 2012 CrossVegas winner and perennial American favorite Jeremy Powers of Aspire Racing. From the European side, the powerhouse brothers duo from the Belgian ERA-Circus team, Laurens and Diether Sweeck promise to stir things up. Laurens finished 3rd in the 2016 edition of World Cup CrossVegas, and had two podium finishes in Iowa City this past weekend - including 2nd at the World Cup and 1st in the C1 Race. and is currently ranked 4th in the world. Four-time US national champion Jonathon Page and current US U-23 Men’s Champion, Lance Haidet of the Donnelly Sports Team round out the top spots.
UCI Elite Women Not to be outdone by the men’s multinational field, the Elite Women’s field also shines with an international presence, led by Czech racer Katerina Nash of the Clif Bar Pro Team. Nash is the event’s only 4-time winner and was winner of the 2015 edition, the first ever UCI World Cup race held in the USA. With her win at the season’s first UCI World Cup in Iowa City, she’s already in top form. But also watch out for Nash’s Clif Bar Pro Team Canadian teammate Catherine Pendrel who is coming off of a stellar World Cup MTB season. Also competing will be 2016 World’s silver medalist French racer Caroline Mani of Van Dessel/Atom Composites, and Ellen Noble of Aspire Racing, silver medalist at the 2017 World Championships in the Women’s U-23 category. And don’t rule out 2014 winner Meredith Miller of Rapha/Canyon, who is emerging from retirement to line up “for fun” as she describes it.In addition to the UCI elite men's and women's category races, CrossVegas has a USA Cycling race categories and a Wheelers and Dealers Race for representatives of the cycling industry. CrossVegas has seen impressive growth since its inaugural race in 2007, and each year attracts an increasingly elite field of U.S. and foreign racers as well as over 10,000 spectators. It has been sponsored by Clif Bar since 2011.
