In the wake of Hurricane Florence, Myrtle Beach’s oldest, largest, and most unique gift shop, the Gay Dolphin Gift Cove has printed up #CarolinaStrong stickers that benefit the Waccamaw Community Foundation for Hurricane Florence relief efforts in Horry, Georgetown, and Williamsburg counties.
This glossy die cut sticker features the Palmetto State precisely cut out of our white polypropylene, and the hashtag over a deep, blue color. The Gay Dolphin, an anchor of the Myrtle Beach community since the 1940s, was blessed to receive no damage during the storm, but their hearts and prayers are with their neighbors, employees, vendors, salespeople, and anyone else that has been affected by Hurricane Florence.
What started as a small gift shop with a large amusement park for children has grown into the largest gift shop in the area and one of the most visited attractions in the Grand Strand. With their wide selection of sea shells, apparel, home decor, collectibles, jewelry, sharks teeth, and photo opportunities, the Gay Dolphin is more than a gift shop – it's a shopping experience.
As World War II was winding down, Gay Dolphin founder Justin Plyler had a vision for Myrtle Beach, one where he saw an affordable, family-friendly vacation destination that was so entertaining that families would return year after year. So in 1946, Justin and Eloise Plyler purchased their first oceanfront lot. Over the next few years, they added businesses, including a golf course; three Inns; a reptile show; Myrtle Beach’s first aquarium; a monkey exhibit; many amusement rides; a donut shop; and of course, the Gay Dolphin Gift Cove.
