According to the Encyclopedia of the Internets, the Boundary Waters is a "region of wilderness straddling the Canada–United States border between Ontario and Minnesota, in the region just west of Lake Superior." Other people call it heaven.
The Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness is an access point to this primeval boondocks, encompassing more than 1 million acres in Superior National Forest (on the U.S. side). This place is seriously beautiful and a complete respite from today's busy for the sake of busy-ness lifestyle.
It's also a challenging landscape, even for the seasoned outdoorsperson. Before you start communing with nature, be sure to check out BWCA's website for maps, permits, and packing lists (tip: bring a bear kit). And watch out for wolves!
